One of the main components of the IHN program is our
Network of Host &
Support
Congregations and Organizations.
Hosting rotates
weekly among the Network congregations, as each in turn provides lodging, daily meals, and welcoming
care. There are also
other Support
Congregations that assist with
meals and toiletries. A listing of our current Hosting/Supporting
Congregations and Organizations can be seen on our
Host Listing page.
Direct
benefits to the Host & Support Congregations include
broadening perspectives on poverty and homelessness and
allowing volunteers the opportunity to be servants of
God. Some clergy have commented that participation in
IHN was a “turning point” in their ministry and their
congregation, causing them to become less ingrown.
Others maintain that IHN became the focal point for
renewal, as a spirit of “cooperation and generosity”
increased among parishioners.
IHN
unites many different religious communities into a joint
mission effort. By sharing a mutual concern and
response to the problem of homelessness, relationships
are born that transcend denominations and cultures, and
a common purpose enriches not only the congregations
themselves but the life of an entire faith community.
